The sun has moved on putting the terrace into a soft, cooling shade. The wind is up and the breeze is sweet. Going out to enjoy the day with a cold drink. And perhaps some knitting project.

Summer

1 min read
Deep in the bright, hot hell of summer here in little Topeka KS, state capital, and mecca of surrounding tiny towns. There's a great library though, as consolation. And the taxis are very reasonably priced. So, not getting out much now that the temperature is generally around 90 degrees (or higher) most days and the humidity hovers at 33%. Like a steam bath out there. So, I'm in here trying to figure out how to live without Bryce or Adobe Creative Suite (in particular Photoshop and Illustrator). Have recovered from hard drive crash, fairly painlessly thanks to back up two days before the crash. Yes, sometimes I get lucky.

Posting random old and recently made art that hasn't been seen anywhere else. Yes, you see it here first. Lucky you!

A few days ago it was 80 degrees and sunny. Yesterday it was 73 and sunny. Today snow is falling in thick dense flakes. One of the daffodils is ready to bloom. The birds are hitting the feeder like hammers. I'm groggy and feel like sleeping all day. This is spring in Kansas, or at least in Topeka. Looking forward to real spring and super glad I've had a few sunny, warm days to hold me until then.

Lost my usual software, Bryce, to upgrades. Daz no longer makes it for the Mac and they are charging for it instead of giving it away for free. I'm exploring deeper into Photoshop and Illustrator territory. Took a Jack Davis seminar and learned a lot about making watercolor drawings and textured surfaces. Also got some nice free brushes. Experimenting with them.

Made my own brush -- a variable one with random splatters that changes when you resize the tip. If I ever figure out how to separate it into one brush (from my PS palette) I'll post it for free. Too much fun to keep to myself!

I think that covers just about everything. A bit late for the Solstice which doesn't make my wish any less sincere.

I really do hope for world peace every day. That means a lot of work for all of us because world peace involves creating healthy, happy, productive human beings who can communicate effectively with one another and work together. Creating world peace also means clearing up mental health issues so that every child can grow up sane.

In the meantime, I work on my little corner of the world making myself sane and happy while enjoying the company of two house mates, three dogs, and two cats.

busy day

1 min read
Culled nine landscapes from my "Skies" Make Something 365 project and put them in a blog post. Rendered a high resolution of "Orange" and then uploaded "Orange" all over the place and tweeted it. Published an artist's book on CreateSpace with a Kindle version. Energetic day! Must be the new moon.
